This book contains some good information, including material from personal memoirs, but the online version does support navigation by chapter, and the book itself has no table of contents. Other online sources (find via WorldCat) allow navigation to individual pages, but also provide no chapter titles or chapter navigation. However, the Google Books version can be searched using keywords, and that can be helpful for finding information on specific topics.

History of Frederick County
- This work, originally published in two volumes, is now in the public domain can can accessed in digital form via the Hathi Trust Digital Library:
- Includes useful information on the early history of Frederick County. While I have only skimmed this, it seems to confirm that German-speaking immigrants and their descendants were a significant presence.
The biographical sketch of Philip Hiteshew (son of Daniel) in the above work appears to have been pretty much copied from an earlier work:
(For biographical sketch of Philip L. Hiteshew, see pp. 329-331.)

REM
As a matter of policy, this wiki does not provide identifying information for living persons unless there is good reason to do so and consent has been given. REM is a descendant of Richard F. Marshall and has done decades of research on Marshall family history. Through tenacious efforts, REM discovered a summary of the will of Richard F. Marshall and put together a family tree for Richard that has been well validated. REM has also provided guidance and corrective information for others researching Marshall family history. This wiki owes much to REM and is grateful for his work.
